Coastal

Securing world economic waters

More than 90% of the world’s trade is carried by sea; maintaining the security of coastlines, territorial waters and Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ) is critical. Having access to real-time data is vital in ensuring safety and security of the maritime domain.

Using SharpEye technology from HENSOLDT UK, the Kelvin Hughes Shore Based Sensor (SBS) radars are a proven solution in both coastal and offshore surveillance environments. Today HENSOLDT UK’s SBS systems are operational around the world, used in ports, along coastlines and on offshore exploration platforms. They are reliably supporting operations by providing the visibilty needed in a range of environments.

Used by:

  • Ports
  • Coastal Authorities
  • Offshore oil & gas platforms
  • Critical infrastructure

Shore Based Radars

HENSOLDT UK has been supporting the world's ports authorities and vessel traffic management services (VTMS) suppliers for many years, providing state of the art radar systems for the management, safety and security of busy shipping lanes, ports, waterways and coastlines.

Using with SharpEye technology enables users to detect targets from a greater range in the most difficult conditions, the Kelvin Hughes Shore Based Sensor (SBS) radar family has been specified by port authorities around the world.

The SBS radar range, aligned to the IALA V-128 recommendations, meets the requirements of  VTMS or coastal surveillance systems.

HENSOLDT UK works closely with system integrators to determine which system best meets their needs.

Coastal Surveillance

HENSOLDT UK’s products have been helping to protect the world's coastlines thanks to the Kelvin Hughes Shore Based Sensor (SBS) radar range. These systems are able to detect even the smallest of targets such as small wooden boats and RHIBs, which maybe operating illegally including trafficking and facilitating entry into a country through remote unprotected shorelines. SBS systems are capable of detecting uncooperative low Radar Cross Section (RCS) targets.

SharpEye technology, available on the Kelvin Hughes SBS-800 and SBS-900, provides even greater target detection capabilities than traditional radars. These systems are able to identify targets at greater distances and in the most challenging of conditions and sea states.

Offshore Radar

Offshore oil and gas platforms and floating production storage and offloading facilities (FPSOs), as well as other infrastructure, are often positioned in some of the most challenging waters. Their requirements are unique: similar to those of moving vessels, needing to be self-sufficient, but not dissimilar to those of ports and coastlines.

This means they require the ability to detect targets, manage vessel traffic around the asset and any neighbouring assets, ensure vessels are able to approach and leave safely, and ensure security is provided through adequate surveillance.

HENSOLDT UK’s extensive range of radars and radar systems will meet these needs.. With the addition of SharpEye technology, offshore facilities’ crew are able to detect targets from a greater range, in difficult conditions and high sea states.

Today hundreds of these systems are operational around the world. HENSOLDT UK works with system integrators to determine which system best meets their needs.

Wind Farm Safety Radar

Wind farms pose unique challenges and requirements. Often very tall, these structures have the potential to pose a risk to low-flying aircraft, meaning warning lights are critical. However, finding that balance of ensuring the facility meets dark sky legislation, and to conserve energy, lights only become operational when there is a risk of a collision with passing aircraft.

HENSOLDT UK’s SharpEye doppler radar can detect aircraft and in conjunction with third party systems, activate these warning light systems, even in response to small airborne targets such as microlights.

HENSOLDT UK continuously works with expert partners specialising in aircraft warning lights for wind farms.
